Luxor – The West Bank II

Our ship will be docked back in the city of Luxor. In the morning, after breakfast, we will take a boat across the Nile to the West Bank. Our first stop will be Mortuary Temple Hatshepsut. This temple is breath taking from a distance, wait until you get up close. Your Egyptologist will guide you through this Temple and point out several key features and scenes.   On the way to Howard Carter’s house we will make two photographic stops. These two opportunities will enable you to see some of Luxor’s latest discoveries along with some of its most noteworthy statues.

Next we will drive to the house of Howard Carter, the person who found King Tutankhamun’s Tomb.

Once we arrive at Howard Carter’s house we will be guided through his place of residency as he was excavating the Valley of the Kings. You will get a glimpse of what his life was like as the house is still fully furnished with its original furniture. 

After this visit we will take a short drive to an Ancient Egyptian Worker’s village; Deir el-Medina. In Deir el-Medina you will have time to go into several tombs of the workers. Your eyes will not believe the colorful scenes that you will see. 

We will stop at a near by local restaurant for lunch. 

After lunch we will tour one of Egypt’s most disruptive temple, Medinet Habu. The relief work at Medinet Habu is so deep some can place their arms up to their elbows inside most of them. Our Egyptologist will guide us around the grounds and through this temple. You will learn the history of this amazing place and will understand what some of the scenes represent.

On the way back to our ship we will stop for one last photo opportunity in front of two massive stone statues of the pharaoh Amenhotep II. As we say good bye to our time on the West Bank we will be transported back to our ship where the remaining of the day is at your leisure. Enjoy afternoon tea on the sundeck, a relaxing massage, or sip a few drinks with your fellow travelers.
